22 August, 6:45-7:45pm. Peppers Theatre, Edinburgh
The Independent Publishing programme is organising, in conjunction with Publishing Scotland, a talk with renowned New York publisher Andre Schiffrin during the Edinburgh Book Festival. This talk looks at the wider crisis of the media that Schiffrin says is contributing to the demise of serious journalism in newspapers. He compares the crisis in the US to the situation in Europe, and demonstrates how the American corporate model has extended its reach across the globe. Schiffrin considers a range of alternative policies that, if pursued, could safeguard the future of publishing, bookselling and the press. Book a space.
