From England and the south
Via the M6 and M74 (A74) motorways. Leave the M74 Jct 4 to join the M73 Jct 1. Leave the M73 Jct 2 to join the M8 Jct 8 westbound. Exit the M8 Jct 15.

From Stirling and the north
Via the M9, M80 (A80) and M8 motorways. Traffic from Fife should follow signs for the Kincardine Bridge and then join the M876. Leave the M8 Jct 15.

From Edinburgh and the east
Via the M8 motorway. East Lothian and Northumberland traffic on the A1 should take the A720 Edinburgh City By-pass to join the M8. Tyneside traffic should take the A69 Carlisle Road and join the M6 at Jct 44, the intersection with the A74 (M) northbound, then M73 and M8. Leave the M8 Jct 15.

 

Coming by Train

Trains

There are frequent direct Avanti West Coast rail links from London Euston to Glasgow Central Station. On some trains from London, you may need to change at Edinburgh Waverley for a First Scot Rail Service. The Caledonian Sleeper offers overnight travel options directly to Glasgow. 

 

The direct journey from London to Glasgow takes around 4 to 5 hours. The journey from Edinburgh to Glasgow takes 50 minutes, with trains running every 15 minutes.

 

Flying

Getting into Glasgow from the airports

 

You can fly into Glasgow International Airport with a wide range of airlines, including British AirwaysEasyjetBMIFlyBe

From Glasgow International Airport, it's a 15-20 minutes drive into the city - and there are regular airport buses. The Glasgow Shuttle 500 stops on George Square, two minutes from the Institute. The Glasgow Shuttle operates a 24 hour service every day (£10 single or £16 open return). A taxi costs around £25 one way.

Prestwick International Airport is around 30 miles from the city centre and has its own train station with First Scot Rail trains running to Glasgow Central Station every half hour (once an hour on Sunday) and taking approximately 45 minutes. There is also a bus service number X77 run by Stagecoach between the airport and Buchanan Bus Station in Glasgow. The airport's location also means that travel by road is generally hassle-free. 

NOTE: there is no public transport to/from Prestwick for early morning and late evening flights when a private bus operates between Prestwick airport and Glasgow Buchanan Bus Station (pre-booking a seat is advisable).

 

From Edinburgh Airport, there is a direct AIR shuttle bus to Glasgow Buchanan Bus station departing from stance D every 30 minutes, the journey takes approximately 1 hour (£15.50 for a single or £26.50)
